چکیده

This study provides a comprehensive methodology for optimizing the design of a twophase micro-channel heat sink. The heat sink parameters are grouped into geometrical parameters, operating parameters, and thermal/fluid parameters. The objective of the proposed methodology is to optimize micro-channel dimensions in pursuit of acceptable values for the thermal/fluid parameters corresponding to a given heat flux, coolant, and overall dimensions of the heat generating device to which the heat sink is attached. The proposed optimization methodology yields an acceptable design region encompassing all possible micro-channel dimensions corresponding to a prescribed coolant flow rate or pressure drop. The designer is left with the decision to select optimum channel dimensions that yield acceptable values of important thermal/fluid parameters that are easily predicted by the optimization procedure. The Optimal Design of Heat Sinks: A Review

Heat sinks are used in industrial equipment to dissipate the excess heat from their heat-generating parts to the ambient. In the last few years, efforts on manufacturing electronic or mechanical devices with less weight, space, and lower cost were spent. Heat dissipation from the heat sink is stalling a big problem which many researchers are trying to solve. The aim of this study is to brief th...

Thermal Design Methodology for High-Heat-Flux Single-Phase and Two-Phase Micro-Channel Heat Sinks

This paper explores several issues important to the thermal design of single-phase and two-phase micro-channel heat sinks. The first part of the paper concerns single-phase heat transfer in rectangular micro-channels. Experimental results are compared with predictions based on both numerical as well as fin analysis models. While the best agreement between predictions and experimental results wa...

Transport Phenomena in Two-Phase Micro-Channel Heat Sinks

The design and reliable operation of a two-phase micro-channel heat sink require a fundamental understanding of the complex transport phenomena associated with convective boiling in small, parallel coolant passages. This understanding is the primary goal of this paper. This goal is realized by exploring the following aspects of boiling in microchannels: hydrodynamic instability, two-phase flow ...

Optimization and Design Guidelines for High Flux Micro-channel Heat Sinks for Liquid and Gaseous Single-phase Flow

A numerical optimization tool is used to optimize forced convection micro-channel heat sinks for minimum pump power at high heat fluxes. Results gained with the optimization tool are generalized and optimum configurations are illustrated on design charts. Physical trends are illustrated analytically using the underlying relations. Investigations are done for air and water in single-phase flow w...

Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer in Rectangular Micro-Channels

Knowledge of flow pattern and flow pattern transitions is essential to the development of reliable predictive tools for pressure drop and heat transfer in two-phase micro-channel heat sinks. In the present study, experiments were conducted with adiabatic nitrogenwater two-phase flow in a rectangular micro-channel having a 0.40632.032 mm crosssection. Superficial velocities of nitrogen and water...
